Smoky sketch

I actually have some fresh artwork to post! I started an acrylic painting last night inspired by the afore mentioned Glenn Barr, and here is the scanned sketch that I'm basing it off of.

I'm thinking I'll be doing a couple more sort of studies on different artists for a little while, since I can't find any sort of subject/style/inspiration that's my own. But that's ok! Cause this is just kind of like practice, and practice is good.

I'm liking Drawn.ca a lot. Did you see this guy? Joshua Gorchov? I'm digging his "personal" paintings. Particulary "The Mechanized Age" and "The Ominous Significance of a Particular Thing".

I can't believe I forgot James Jean. I love James Jean.

In addition...

James Jean I have to post this one.

And even though I don't want to keep making Anime Plugs:

Yoshitoshi ABe (The creator of Haibane Renmei - which is amazing.)

Also, on a another note,

Check out Drawn! I get lots of inspiration from that site, including the inspiration to make this blog.

It's my goal to get on there one day. It's Canadian, but whatever because all the cool kids seem to be from there now.

The List v.1

Sometimes I forget the names of artists that I find around the internet or in a museum that I really like, so I'm going to take the time to make a list of current favorites.

Glenn Barr (I'm digging the retro style and mastery of acrylics, which I hate.)
Jason Sho Green (Especially the paintings.)
Ashley Wood (I idealize his technique.)
Audrey Kawasaki (Her girls are so sensuous.)
Kehinde Wiley (He has a piece up at the Blanton, which everyone should see.)
Jonathan Viner (Once again, I prefer the paintings.)
Ian Francis (Who is beyond excellent.)

I'm going to try and make a habit of listing more artists as I come to them.
